Thank you for your booking for the Mindfulness Retreat with Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh in Escorial-Natura Convention & Resort, April 30th to May 4th 2014

This page is only for those people that have received a confirmation of booking and payment email from the organisers.

First of all, we just want to let you know, that we are SO HAPPY that you are going to be able to join us for this very special event!

Here is some very important information about what to bring with you, how to get there, arrival times, etc. Please read carefully and print out all the following details, and make sure that every member of your party has read this information if you have booked for more than one person.

What to bring:

General items:

– A meditation cushion and zafu or blanket for listening to dharma talks and meditation sessions (some chairs will be provided but most of us will sit on the wooden floor, so please make sure you bring these items – you’ll need something to sit on!)
– Yoga Matt and Blanket for lying down in deep relaxation sessions.
– Torch
– Alarm Clock
– Warm clothes (it can be cold at night or in the morning)
– Rain Jacket or Umbrella just in case of rain!
– Shoes that are easy to take on and off for entering the meditation hall

In a bungalow:

Bungalows include bedding and towels. You will need to bring your own soap, and toiletry items, including toilet paper.

For camping:

You will need to bring all of your own camping equipment, including tent, mattress, sleeping bag, blankets, towel, toiletry items etc and be prepared for some cold nights, as temperatures can drop in El Escorial at night even in May.

How to get there:

By bus: From Madrid’s Intercambiador de Moncloa bus station, take bus number 664, which takes around 50 minutes. See the timetable here. Make sure you ask for the ‘camping escorial’ stop when you get on and ask the driver to let you know when to get off. From the bus stop it’s an 800m walk to the entrance of Escorial-Natura Convention & Resort.

By car: From the A-6 (Madrid-La Coruña) motorway, take exit 47 and follow signs to El Escorial. After 3 km you’ll find a turn-off to the left signposted El Escorial-Natura convention & resort (6 km before you get to El Escorial). An alternative route is to take exit 18 of the A-6 motorway, and follow the M 505 Las Rozas-El Escorial main road. When you get to El Escorial, take the M-600 towards Guadarrama, and take the turn off to Escorial-Natura Convention & Resort 6 km. out of El Escorial. GPS 40º 37′ 37” Norte (N) 4º 06′ 00” Oeste(W).

From Madrid Barajas airport: Escorial-Natura Convention & Resort is about 60 kms away from Madrid airport.

On public transport, you need to take a train from the airport to Nuevos Ministerios. Then from Nuevos Ministerios take a train to El Escorial. From El Escorial take a taxi to Escorial-Natura Convention & Resort (ask for ‘camping El Escorial’  – we are 7 Kms from El Escorial). Alternatively, take a train from the airport to Nuevos Ministerios, then from Nuevos Ministerios take the underground/Metro to Moncloa. From Moncloa central bus station – the Intercambiador de Moncloa – (linked to the metro), follow the ‘by bus’ instructions above.

Arrival and Departure times for the Retreat:

The Retreat Venue has promised that bungalows and camping spaces for the Retreat will be available from 3pm on the day you arrive. On the day of departure, rooms must be vacated before 5pm. You may be charged extra if you or members of your party fail to leave on time.

Cars:

One car per may be parked with each bungalow or tent, with others in the main carpark.

Children:

There will be a children’s program for 6 to 12 year olds, and a teens program for 13 to 17 year olds. These programs will be offered during Thich Nhat Hanh’s talks, during afternoon dharma sharing activities, and during some evening activities.

Please note that children under 6 do not have a separate program, and must be under the care of one of their parents at all times.

Language:

The daily talks by Thich Nhat Hanh will be given in English, with direct translation into Spanish. Other activities will take place in Spanish, with English translation available where appropriate.

Afternoon & Evening Activities:

Lunch and Rest, including deep relaxation with the Plum Village monastics
Dharma Discussion, practising loving speech and deep listening together
Dinner in mindfulness together
Five Mindfulness Trainings Presentation and Ceremony, Beginning Anew Presentation, Total Relaxation or Touching the Earth
Sitting Meditation to finish the day with wonderful inner tranquility

Accessibility, Health Problems, Food During the retreat.

If you suffer from any disability or illness that mean you may require special help during the retreat, it is essential that you make this known to the organisers before the retreat, by emailing gira@tnhspain.org with full details.

All food will be vegetarian vegan during the retreat, in the plum village style. Unfortunately we are unable to provide for special diets, however the bungalows do include basic cooking facilities and a fridge only for those that need to bring and prepare their own special food. Everyone else will be expected to join the main retreat party to eat all meals together in the dining room.

Animals and Pets:

No animals or pets of any kind, except guide dogs for the blind and hearing dogs for the deaf, are allowed at the Retreat. Should you intend to bring a guide or hearing dog you must clear this with the Organisers at the time of booking.

Cancelation and Refund Policy:

If you need to cancel your booking for the Thich Nhat Hanh Retreat please contact Escorial-Natura Convention & Resort as soon as possible, via this email address, so that your place can be given to someone else:

No refunds are payable for late arrivals or early departures.

Other uses of Escorial-Natura Convention & Resort

Please note that we will be sharing Escorial-Natura Convention & Resort with other members of the public during the retreat. This is usually a very rich part of the retreat experience. Perhaps some of them will join us for some walking meditation!

What to do while we wait for the retreat?

In order to prepare for the retreat, there is plenty you can do now! Read books by Thich Nhat Hanh, watch videos of other Thich Nhat Hanh events, join a local meditation group (Sangha), and above all, practice the wonderful mindfulness practices in the Thich Nhat Hanh/Plum Village tradition!
