From Friday, 9th May to Sunday, 11th May Barcelona will host the International Conference on Mindfulness in Education with Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and fifty members of the monastic community of Plum Village.
The event will take place in the Campus Mundet of the University of Barcelona and attendees will receive formal certification from the University of Barcelona, the Department of Education of the Generalitat of Catalonia and Plum Village.
This will be a unique opportunity for anyone interested in all areas of formal and informal education: students; pre-school, primary school and secondary school teachers and university professors; educators and social workers; psychologists; coaches and counselors; therapists; yoga teachers; health, social and business sector professionals; parents; and anyone interested in lifelong learning.
The Conference will be in the form of a retreat, and through it we will embark on an experience of mindful learning, inner healing and reflective dialogue to: 1) learn to take care of ourselves and those with whom we live; 2) create compassionate and mindful communities and schools; and 3) let ourselves be inspired by innovative action and deep insight in our personal and professional lives.
As a participant you will gain knowledge based on experience as well as practical methods relevant for educators or professionals from various fields who live or work with children, young people or people at risk or in need of care.
The Conference will be led by Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, poet, human rights activist, author of over a hundred books on mindfulness and who was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Martin Luther King Jr. in 1967 for his solid fight for peace during the Vietnam War.
The Conference will provide vegan breakfast, lunch and dinner for attendees; however, it will be non-residential. In the Escuelas Despiertas website a number of residences near the Campus Mundet will be suggested and each person will have to book their own accommodation.
The Conference will be complemented by an International Course on Mindfulness in Education with the monks and nuns of Plum Village, which will include dharma talks, workshops and sharing groups to deepen and explore mindfulness and learn practical tools for personal and professional life.
The course will take place in the Campus Mundet in Barcelona every afternoon from Monday, 12th May to Friday, 16 May. People who attend the Conference and the Course shall receive a formal certificate which will be regarded as the acquisition of LEVEL 1 of the Wake Up Schools Program of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh.
